Moving to Lake Arrowhead? Read This First!

Things You Should Know Before Moving to Lake Arrowhead:

Choose Your Driveway Wisely -- Make sure your driveway is manageable for shoveling in the winter and that your vehicle can handle the incline. Steep, narrow, or shaded driveways can be a nightmare in icy conditions.

4x4 is Almost a Necessity -- If you don't have a four-wheel drive, you'll likely get stuck without chains--and sometimes even with them. Snow and ice can make even small hills impassable.

• Grocery Prices Are Higher -- Expect to pay more at local stores compared to big retailers like Costco and Walmart. Stocking up on essentials during trips down the mountain can save you money.

• Limited Dining Options -- There aren't a ton of restaurants, but the ones available are decent. Be prepared for longer wait times during tourist season.

• No Home Mail Delivery -- All mail goes to a P.O. Box, so say goodbye to doorstep deliveries. UPS and FedEx may deliver to your house, but USPS won't.

• Stairs Can Be Brutal -- If your house has 100 steps to the front door, you might regret it--especially when hauling groceries, furniture, or shoveling snow in winter.

• Garages Are More of a Rarity -- Many homes don't have garages, so be ready to clear snow off your car regularly. Covered parking or a carport is a huge bonus.

• Tourists & Traffic -- Weekends and holidays bring a flood of tourists, which means more traffic, crowded stores, and limited parking.

• Power Outages Happen -- Strong winter storms and heavy winds can knock out power for hours or even days. Having a generator and backup heat source is a good idea.

• Fire Restrictions Are Strict -- Fire danger is high in the summer, so expect heavy restrictions on outdoor burning, fireworks, and sometimes even grilling.

• Cell Service Can Be Spotty -- Depending on your carrier and exact location, you might experience weak signals or dropped calls. Wi-Fi calling is often a necessity.

• Wildlife Is Everywhere -- Bears, coyotes, and mountain lions roam the area, and smaller critters like raccoons and squirrels will get into your trash if you're not careful.

• Living Here is Peaceful--But Not for Everyone -- The scenery is incredible, and the mountain lifestyle is quiet, but if you're used to big-city conveniences, the slower pace and isolation can take some getting used to.
