Crestline Woman Arrested for Stealing at Goodwins
Alcohol Section at Goodwins Market in Crestline
On February 19, 2025, a 48-year-old woman from Crestline, Sali Medina, was arrested for repeatedly stealing whiskey from Goodwin’s Market on Lake Dr. The Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department caught her after she stole a bottle, returned to drink another, and stole again while disguised. Deputies found her nearby and charged her with theft due to two prior convictions, under a new California law.
This case uses Proposition 36, passed in November 2024 and effective since December 2024. Called “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act,” it toughens penalties for repeat offenders to fight theft, addiction, and homelessness—reversing some earlier leniency.
Medina’s actions show how alcoholism can drive people to steal to feed their habit, clouding their judgment and potentially ruin their lives.
It’s unclear if Proposition 36 will truly stop these crimes or if it needs more focus on helping people with addiction. For now, the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station (call (909) 336-0600 or We-Tip at 1-800-78CRIME or www.wetip.com) is on the case and wants tips.
This account is a testament to addiction’s toll and whether the new law can make a difference in Crestline, balancing stricter rules with support.
